hi and i was wondering if it were possible to switch parts on any year of the b5 generation and put it on an older version. For example, could it be possible to take the seats from an 01 and put them into a 98? or could you take the deck for an 01 and put it into a 98? these are only a few of the many examples that im curious about. Now i did about an hour of searching on hear and never got a clear anwser, so im sorry to all of the pros and experienced users hear if this is a very noobish question

the seats will go in with minor modifications.

and the deck. well i did that with my 99. had to swap out the whole center console.

 

what about FOB code things.. is there a way to tell what audi remotes can work with mine? i have a 96, but i have no clicker, and driver side doorlock doesnt work and its annoying going to passenger side everytime lol... so clicker is best answer

 

well can i put you on the spot? could i do anything of these things (ill number them for ya so you can just say yes or no) and of these situations will be the example of switching something from a newer car to an older model ex. 01-96 00-97 etc.

1. could i swap tail lights from a new model to an older one?
2. could i switch the steering wheel (with any audi of any year or any model?)
3. i know you already said seats? assuming that works with like S4 too? what about like the new RS6 recaro seats?
4. and you also said about the radio with the dash and stuff. one question, after you got it all to fit, was it just a plug and play situtation? or was there alot of wiring involved?

1. The tail lights can be swapped, but the bulb holders need to go with
2. The steering wheel can be swapped, but you can't swap a tiptronic steering wheel with a regular one or vice versa
3. Seats are pretty easy, with minor modification to the rails
4. the radios should be pretty much plug and play, but there's a LOT of work involved in the swap, ask JC

 

Some of those harness connectors must be different though - the double DIN buttons are quite a bit smaller than the older style so I'd think you'd have to put the newer connectors on and re-pin them. I don't know for sure though.

Yea door cards can be swapped. Headlights and tail lights can be swapped te headlights will news minor fender triming for them to fit. You can basicaly put anything into your car if your dedicated and like getting creative. The rs6 seats are probly the same as the s4 seats will fit with minor mods. I would say it's like adding aftermarket seats. And as frnsteering wheel I put an 02 s4 wheel on my car but I'm 99.5 so my steering Colum was the same as the s4's I'd have to see the wheel off the car on a pre 99.5 to see if it would fit. And as for keys pre 98 didn't use switchblades so the fccid is different. I know only the 2 button key fobs work the one with the trunk button I think doesn't work.

And my double din swap was easy. And everything was plug and play

 

wow thanks for everyones help, i havent got my audi yet so i was just wondering on some of the things, im super excited to get it though (first car, who wouldnt) but i was just wondering, and since where all in a helpful mood does anyone know of a store (online) or who has a favorite store where they can get used parts, like where i could find those new RS6 recaro seats, like an online junk or salvage yard where wrecked cars are parted out? i know the markertplace has alot of that but i was hoping that there was some sort of website that took care of that?
