Can't pull codes, how to know which CP?
2000 A4 So I need to drive 400 miles tomorrow.
I can't pull codes and I'm not expecting to find a mechanic that will tomorrow. (does Audi pull for free?)
The other day all of a sudden, a cylinder goes out and the car is shaking like a tank with a flashing CEL. I begin to pull to right lane, give it more power cause it was lacking, the boom it kicks in again and my car accels nicely, CEL gone.
Happened three or four more times on my way to destination. Didn't happen again all day.
Then today it happened but then the light stayed solid but the car drives fine.
Should I just replace cyl #1 CP and then see if that clears the CEL. If not, put old back in, and move new CP to cyl #2, again check to see if CEL is still on?
With that said, how much are they? I don't want to buy 4 in case it is the ICM.
I'm almost certain it's not plugs. It idles fine and drives well but then BAM problem is here, BAM problem is gone.

Sounds like the **** my car was doing. I swapped to the newer fsi push ins and have not looked back. Car does not miss at all plus better plug gap.
Look and see what cp you actually have. I thought 2000 were 4 pronged. If so you are half way there.

I think only B6 was covered with coil on plug recall. (2001+)
But, you must get your codes read at an auto parts store to remove the mystery.
