Car with random starts
So 2 weeks ago I went to dinner about 25 minutes away, ate and then left and went to get gas on the way home. Filled the car up and out of nowhere, it wouldn’t start. So I had somebody give me a jump and it fired right up. I thought maybe it was just because it was so cold. So a week goes by and she runs normally. I drive to work Friday and then when I go to leave work it won’t start again. Get someone to jump me again and decide okay, I should probably change the battery. Saturday I get a new battery and now nothing. Gives me on “tick” noise and that’s it. Talked to a college buddy and he said maybe it’s the CTS, so after work today I changed that and still get nothing.
I changed my sister fuel pump on her BMW last week because I couldn’t hear it when I turned the key. I am new to Audi, but from what I gather or can here I can assume that it could be one of two issues. Either the pump isn’t working or the starter is fried.
How do you go about testing them on the B5 platform?

What model do you have? Fuel pump is either under back seat or in the trunk (passenger side under mat), not hard to get to. Check to see if it's getting 12V. Anything below that, and it's probably the pump.
From what you're describing though, the ticking etc and randomly not starting....it sounds like it may be your starter on the way out...unless the NEW battery is bad....LOL
If everything is off in the car, and you turn the key, you should be able to hear it from a 'cold' start..I hear mine faintly....
