Default cel and abs brake light

i just bought an '01 a4 1.8t and it's got the cel and abs brake light on, the seller told me that the cel was from the 02 sensor and that the abs was from the abs module and i was wondering if someone could tell me roughly changing these 2 will cost, labor and all. i know it'll be different based upon what the shops want to charge but i just want to know about how much the parts would cost and roughly how much labor should cost

the ABS module can be expensive. Would you believe $1250 from the Audi dealer? I have seen the module itself sold on ECS Tuning for $530. You can also look up in the search for the guy who rebuilds them for a decent price.

The O2 sensor can be anywhere from $50-$110 depending where you look. A shop can do the O2 sensor easy. They will probably be done in less than an hour but will probably bang you for the full hour anyway, so whatever the shops hourly rate plus the cost of the part.

www.modulemaster.com for the abs rebuild. Inexpensive and turned around quickly. Scan the codes to be sure it's the O2 sensor and not the cat. Also make sure it's the module and not a wheel sensor. You have no guarantee that the prior owner knows what he's talking about.

Don't just run out and pay - avail yourself of this forum's incredible wealth of knowledge. Go to AutoZone and have them scan the car for codes. It's free. Then post the codes (along with any behaviors you notice in the way the car drives), and we can likely tell you what is wrong and save you a lot of money. You may be able to fix it yourself or get help from a forum member near you, buy the parts from a forum sponsor for far less money, and learn about your car. DIY is te way to go with Audi - they're not terribly hard to work on and shops get a fortune to fix them.

i took the car to a shop today and the mechanic said the same thing as the previous owner, the 02 sensor is out and he said he'd charge me 30-40 for the labor if i buy the part, as for the abs module, he says only a dealer can do that but i'm thinking if i can just remove it myself then send it to module masters to get it rebuilt and save me 600+. i also just found out today that the right tie rod is broken a problem i know is common on these cars. i'm current searching to see if i can buy the part online tho he says he's fix it for $500 but only 70-100 for labor if i get the part myself. as for the diy, i know almost nothing about cars, and all i have is a basic set of wrenches and a ramp to lift the car a little which i hear is enough to change a tie rod given that there's no rust i have to break through or anything like that but i'd need a step by step guide with pictures to be able to do it myself and i havent found one on these forums yet. crappy thing is i just moved to kansas city MO for school otherwise i would've been in NJ, really close to a lot of the members on this forum

Well that's good at least that he sold you straight on the problems with the car. You will save a ton on the module by having it rebuilt and if you don't have the tools and must have it done, those prices are pretty fair for labor.

I'm in north Jersey and if you were in the area I could have definitely helped with the O2 sensor and the tie rod ends. But that's the way life goes sometimes.......
