well they all go together. you need a chip + a ko4 + more to run a ko4 on your car.If your looking for some more speed without spending too much. Chip it

i was looking at getting the k04 file so i guess i have to have the k04 first to run that because i could be wrong but the k04 on the stock ecu would run just fine but if i get the k04 chip/file i dont think the k03 can run off it.

I believe you could chip the car first with the k03 and then just have the chip flashed over to a k04 file once you purchased a k04... but you might have to send the chip to the company to be flashed over. But I'm not 100% sure so someone should confirm this

well what i tough of doing was buy the k04 bolt it on use it like this for 1 week or 2 then go down the the giac/awe tuning shop (48m drive) that's close to me then get the k04 chip / file and save my self the headache of going back and forward, i am sure i can bolt a k04 and use the car i doubt the car would not run right.

You can run the K04 without the chip. You just won't be getting any extra power.

If you want to chip it first, you can upgrade to the K04 file after you get the K04.

In other words, you can go either way.

Depends on where you go for the chip. Some companies offer discounts for upgrades, some do not. Nothing is free lol.

I think GIAC is known to give you an upgrade at a discounted price as you progress through your upgrades. If your ultimate goal is the KO4, then yes, you can install the turbo, then go get the chip. However, for the full use of the KO4, you need the PC16 file, which also requires new injectors and FPR.

But, it's become pretty common among people around here that the KO4 upgrade simply isn't enough power for the money, when for a few hundred more, you could get an elim kit, and considerable more power.

Just food for thought.

^^ completely agree. I don't advise anyone to spend money on a k04. If your looking at it because you're on a budget or want quick spool look into the frankenturbo. Basically the same price but good for another 20-30whp.
