Vag-Com works on obd1 & obd2 vehicles. I am surprised someone multiple Audi vehicle & 6 scanners does not have a Vag-Com.

BTW the Vag-Com set up works on our 93 100 cs quattro wagon.It works on vehicles going back to 1990.

I think the $120 you are ready to spend on a part you are not positive is bad will be better spent on a Vag Set up.

B5.5 also refers to the facelift A4 99.5+

Which is kind of annoying because with the A4 b5.5. is 99.5-01 on Passats is 01.5-05 lol

 

I'm not sure the plug system on your 93 but on my 91 CQ there is no way for a vagcom to work. There is no way to even pull codes from a scanner. You have the trip the CEL using resistors... But yes I can do anything with my scanners (got for free) that you can do with vagcom other than reset function things ex windows via key fob and and crap like that. You may be right for $120 I could get a vag com but it's nothing I can't do with a scanner. For a $500 car if I drop 1k guess and check I'm not upset lol! Don't worry I don't think you're a dick. And don't let my 5000 post fool you I don't know everything there is to know. My A4 was AEB which still 1.8t20v they have a decent amount of differences

 

The codes still have the same meaning. I still think you need to check the operation of the camshaft adjuster with your scanners. Remember , the cam sensor is there reading where the camshaft is positioned. The adjuster actually adjusts cam timing depending on RPM. The description on the p1531(17939) is camshaft adjustment , open circuit.

With the vag system there is a 2 wire connector that hooks to the vehicle.

 

Yea according to Rosstech with the code it would be the Camshaft Adjustment Valve which is what I'm looking at Home Page > Search > N205 > ES#281138 N205 Valve - 06F109257C

Chocalotstarfish , that part you placed on the post from ESC Tuning is for a later 2.0 engine. I am not sure it will work on your engine. You might have to replace the whole adjuster.

 

I realized that after I posted, I'm having my parts guy cross reference the #'s But the N205 is what rosstech was saying it was

 

N205 is VW/Audi's # for that particular part. It is not a part number but a reference for a individual component. It is used in wiring diagrams if this helps.

The part # for the tensioner should be 058-109-088k
