Don , If this car has had some times of spirited driving it is possibe that something is coming apart internally & causing some sort of flexplate damage.
Pull the tranny out & see what you have? It does sound like it is from that area though.

 

Well my dad might be able to have a guy check it out for me at an uber cheap cost. So I've decided to sell my coupe quattro uber cheap for money to fix the passat.
