Default coilover vs lowering springs?

I am interested in lowering my car, and i finally have the money. I have been doing research and i have found some coilovers for around 500 bucks, but i have seen lowering springs for around 2-300 bucks. It would be nice to save the money, cause i could possibly do something else to my car. Is it worth it to just get lowering springs or is there some downside i am missing?

coils go lower than oe style springs and are adjustable. oe style springs require new shocks unless you have the sport suspension package. the shocks will be painted red if you have the sport suspension

I have race springs over bilstein sport shocks and they're not bad, but if you have the money I would go with coils. The adjustability and ride quality will make you glad you did

I'm the opposite - I'd pick the drop I want, buy springs to achieve it, and call it a day. Constantly adjusting ride height, even for different seasons, is an annoying pain in the **** and absolutely not worth it to me. Pick a height, get the proper springs, and put them in. Set it, forget it, and roll. Audis give you ample opportunity to wrench without asking more of yourself. Oh, and some coilovers have issues with perch thread corrosion, which negates the ability to adjust height and relegates you to a static drop that springs will give you for a fraction of the cost.

I'm going to be biased and disagree with Jeremy.

The ability to change your ride height, although it can be a pain in the *** sometimes, it definitely worth it. It's only a pain in the *** for an hour when you change for winter (or anything else).

The ride quality with be great depending on the coilovers you get, and you can go pretty nice and low before ride quality suffers. The higher you go, the more comfortable. Save up the clams, install yourself and enjoy. It will be worth it. I always think if you're questioning which one to get, go with the coilovers.

I'd have to disagree with all of them. I would just go the cheapest route and cut the stock springs.

I would have to disagree with all of the above and suggest a third option, airbags ;-)

Lol screw it, just drop a dumpster on the roof of your car, preferably from a crane or the top of a parking garage. Instant moar low.

I can't speak for audi's with lowering springs on stock shocks, but with my old car I had tein s-techs on stock shocks and it was an awful ride. Bouncy and unsafe. I felt like I was going to bounce off the side of the overpass if I hit a bump.

Do it once and do it right, either Coilovers or Spring/shock combo.

I've got Eibach shocks + springs. Ride height is perfect (for me) as seen below, and the ride is nice. Stiffer than stock, but not uncomfortably so.
