Default Cold Start Issues

Hey people,

Over the past two months this issue has gotten worse and worse. My car (mainly mornings while sitting in driveway all night) struggles to start, this is how it would happen. I would start the car, one second later it would sound like its choking and shut off. If I try turn it on immediately after the same thing would happen. This is where it gets weird. The third or fourth time I try it, the car would just crank and not start. only after a few hours once the day warms up somewhat the car would start.

How I get around the problem is. Once I first start the car in morning and I see its choking I give it constant throttle and keep it at 1.5-2 rpm so it doesn't choke and turn of, after around 2min I get let go of the throttle and the car will idle. Once the car in the morning is running and has warmed up, it will run fine the whole day up until the next morning where I have to repeat the process in order to get it started.

I have replace the fuel pump and have also cleaned the maf with some maf sensor cleaner. From what I have searched up it can be a variety of issues (o2 sensor, ICM, FPR) but I was hoping someone can specify the most likely cause so I can replace that part and that part only. Any help would be great.

Yep, replaced the sensor, car still doesn't start first go but does on the second no problems. So sensor has made a lot of difference. Still have to find other faults.

How about fuel filter? Do you have a way to check fuel pressure at the rail, to see what it is at first crank vs. second crank?

The fuel filter was changed about a year ago, so I doubt it is fuel filter. As for the fuel pressure, I don't know. The thing is I can start the car up first go if I provide slight constant throttle to keep the car alive, after say 30 seconds I can release throttle and the car will IDLE fine. However as I mentioned when I first try to start car it will shut off after 1-3 seconds. Immediately after I try and start it the second time, it will start and IDLE fine. So as you say the fuel pressure at first crank might be weak.

Lets just say the fuel pressure is less on first crank vs second, am looking at a bad FPR?

If fuel pressure is low at first crank, I would be inclined to think it would be the fuel pump. But replacing the FPR would be an easier / less expensive ordeal.

Nope it's a new walbro 255 pump installed two weeks ago, can't be pump, I guess my next option as you said is the FPR.
