I've tried using the search button but had no luck. Right now I'm looking at a 1997 1.8 A4 what are things to look for before buying? The car has a 128,000 miles on it for 3,600. The person i spoke to told me the cv joint needs to be replaced.
Any help would be useful.

Thanks I had read it before but I guess it skipped my mind when i was looking for common issues. What do you guys think about the deal is it good a one for being 12yrs old and having 128,000 miles on it?

 

Really depends on what's been done to it. If the control arms are reasonably new, the turbo's been rebuilt or replaced and the timing belt and water pump were done fairly recently then maybe around $3000-3500? But I doubt you're going to find one that has had everything done. Money will have to be subtracted accordingly. If you're not very careful about what you buy, you could end up with something needing a LOT of work like I did :-/.

 

Thanks for the info I'm pretty sure the timing belt was done since its lasted so long, I'm not sure about the water pump though I'll ask and the turbo I'm thinking hasn't been done.
