Dead battery or alternator
This morning car would not start. Lights real dim. Jump started. Ran fine to work, about 15 minutes. Volt gauge reading around 14 v. Went to go home. Nothing. No lights, nothing. Jump started again. Volt gauge again reading 14v. Stopped by autozone. tested batt and alt. Battery tested fine. (I just shut the car off). When he tested the alternator the reading did not move up and down with the engine revs.

Hello,
How start up the car before work if it won’t start? Usually voltage is approximately constant around 13-14volts. Why don’t you try to recharge your battery to see what will be the result? Share with us the result.

I check voltage on battery 12.4. Just shut off. While running voltage was 13.6 Checked with volt meter. Placed battery on charger set at 4 amps. 2hrs later still not at full charge. That is with the meter on the charger. Also looked at date on battery. 3/01 I think, hard to tell. Bought the car last year.

a battery should test static at 12.75 volts to properly start a car...if your vehicle dies when moving whence you replace the battery, you can be sure to need the alternator. otherwise that sucker will drain ur new battery dead in no time.
