So I press the defroster button and the air still comes out of the main vents and not the defroster vent? It doesnt let me put change it to the feet vents either? Is this a known problem? How can I fix this?

Could be a jammed vent - stuff gets in there and can jam them, I have seen that before. It could also be a bad line runing to it, Or a detatched line. Push the button and listen to hear if there is any creaking noises if so then it is trying to move and may be jammed or out of allignment. You may just have to get in there and have a look, I have had these whole systems apart before and it is a PITA but in these cases is usually the only way to find the problem.
