Default Doors wont lock/unlock??

Hey guys, for some reason (im guessing some kind of motor) but my doors will no longer lock by pressing the button. I've tried pressing the lock button but nothing happens. The locks will go down by hand but will not unlock from the outside. Idk if its the actualy lock/unlock button on the inside of the door or if its a motor or what and im wondering if there is anyway of checking. Thanks

I had the same problem on my B5 2.8Q. It may be the vacuum lock pump located in the trunk. You can pick up a used one off eBay ($75) and install it yourself. It took me about 2 hours but I'm a noob at this kind of stuff.

Good luck!

Go to a junkyard and grab a pump or just the ceramic disc inside it. Pump is located underneath the little compartment on the right side of the trunk. Its usually the ceramic disc that goes bad. But check all possibilities.

Default Having same problem

I have a 1999 Audi A4 1.8 B5 and my doors won't lock or unlock with the button on the drive door or with the remote. When I hit the unlock or lock button you can hear the pump making noise. What should I do to get it fixed? I would like to diy so I can save money.

Might just be a loose vacuum hose connected to the pump... but fixes are never that easy/cheap are they. The pump is probably shot. It can still try to pump but not have enough power to pull the locks down or push them up. I would pull out the little central locking pump unit and take a look. If a hose is just loose, awesome. If you have to replace just the pump, less awesome but still okay. If, like me, the entire assembly got wet, you'll have to replace the entire thing: ~$150.

Good luck.
