drivetrain probs.....99.5 a4 2.8

Default drivetrain probs.....99.5 a4 2.8

ok just got into audi and awd at that. when going from r-d or d-r the driveshaft clunks does it when i let off and get on the gas to. is this u joints or rear end

When my 300ZX did that it was the center carrier bearing in the driveshaft. It could be either. You may have to jackstand the car and run it with someone shifting between gears while you watch the shaft and see if you can see the joint moving.

ive had 2 240sx.. one of them it was the rear diff taking a **** on me... and like he said the other was the center... so check the driveshaft, if everything looks good and isnt jacked then assume ur rear diff is the issue... and pray it isnt ur tranny lol

Is the clunk you are hearing just behind the driver? The B5 is well known for its clunking of the rear diff to the frame. If this is the problem you are having then you want to look at installing a Stern Power Ring which gets installed around the rear diff mount to decrease it's movement.

yea i remember my jeep use to do it but sold it before i got into fixing it..thanks for ur ideas
