Yes I did confuse Speedo wit tach oops
Thanks Campbell I will look in to that
Redrum I don’t think my model has traction control there no button for next the fogs. I thought that is were it would be correct me if I am wrong.

But that would explain the situation very well if that is the case. Other than that I think what Campbell recommended might shed some light

sounds like traction control, and I'm not sure, but I don't think you have the option of turning it off... Is there a flashing light coming on in the dash when this occurs?

All wheel drive in an Audi is just that. Its on all the time now and you haveno option to shut it off like the earlier years. 96 and up are considered Generation IV Quattro. Think about it logically. If all wheels are spinning the sensors are sending a signal back to the ABS to put the brakes on in those wheels. What happens when you put your brakes on? LOL... Its not rocket science but Great Engineering!

Good Luck...

Nope no ESP button
Redrum is that an option or standard on all B5 models?
quattroA4 if the clutch was slipping then the revs would go way up and then it would smell like ***

I think Redrum is right. I don't think the edl works at higher speeds whereas the esp does. My knowledge on this part of the vehicles is limited. If you don't have the problem at any other time I would suspect the edl which I don't think you can turn off. Next time back off on the throttle so the wheels don't spin and see what happens. Interesting situation, we can all learn from this one. B.
