Eh I got a few points on my license so I drive pretty calm because of that. I still have to drive 40 miles a day to go to school, so I'm stuck droppin about $50 a week on gas anyway.

Yup. I almost never shift later than 3k RPM, more often 2k-2.5k RPM, and I cruise around at 30mph intop gear. Of course, it doesn't help that I have three days off every week and the weather is finally getting nice and I have nothing better to do than go for a cruise. I drive a LOT, for no reason.

Heh, I'm getting that way too. I've always driven this car pretty conservatively, although I do like the pull in 2nd gear and have fun with that each day. Otherwise though, I'm under no illusion that this particular model (2.8L) was meant for real performance, and I don't try to pretend otherwise, but it still can be fun. Hell, I don't think I've had it over 110mph even (and that was only one time), and I don't think I've been over 5k RPM either (except possibly on the triple-digit speed burst I alluded to). I just drive it and enjoy it. If I start feeling the need for real speed, I'll find a toy to build. I've been thinking of a 1st gen DSM to build mainly as a drag car, but kept just civil enough to endure on the street. Strip its interior, bolt-ons for the engine, and take it to our local 1/8th mile track on the weekends, and maybe for a drive here and there. We'll see - but in any event, that'll be where I drive more aggressively. The Audi is my DD, so I have fun with it, but not at high speeds or high revs.

Jeremy Clarkson mentioned something about that. I don't know if he said that doing that is LESS efficient or if it's just not any more efficient than leaving it in gear because, he said, modern cars don't use any fuel while coasting. But if I had a manual, I would still pop it out of gear like you do.

I'm going to have to start changing my driving habits...the problem is that Houston is so spread out that almost every trip ends up being 25 miles or more. If I manage to change my habits, it'll only be temporary because I'm finally going to start having an income again...too bad I have to spend it all on gas [:@].

nah gas doesn't even count. It's all the tickets that made me change. The 69 judge got me out of a lot of them but the chevelle just called out for them. Now it's quite a bit more conservative. only had it turn the injectors off once.

The damn prices really made me drive less. Even when I drive, I set my own 2.5k RPM shift points. Currently getting ~27mpg like this. I think I can do more with a tune-up[8D]

Ive only had my a4 (12v) about 3 months, but when I first had it I would fill it with 93 and punch it (not super fast but fast enough...) for the hell of it. Now I put 89 in it and drive like a grandma, but lost mpgs on the highway (the car handles better at 80 mph than any other speed)because i cant go less than 70, its just wrong. Usually 75.
