That doesnt seem like a crazy price to me. Modified cars that are up for sale are not always lemons. Of course you need to be careful and make a careful inspection, but it would be wrong to automatically assume that he beat on it. Even if upgrades dont add book value to the car, they still have value. Why would someone spend $7000 in upgrades if they dont think it adds value to the car?

I have seen way worse. When I was looking at b5s I saw one in Manassas, VA that had the worst bodywork I have ever seen. Someone slopped a buch of body fill near the wheel well and spray bombed it. The lines were horrible and huge sand mark were apparent in the body fill. The rest of the body had scrathes all over it. It had abou 100k miles and they were asking $8500, non-negotiable.

 

Why doesn't someone just send him an email and invite him to AF. That way he can learn a little something...
