So dumb question... Can you get the computer to recognize the cable? If so can you scan... If so are you just looking how to clear the codes?

I m going to mess around with mine hopeful;ly tonight weather permitted...

Sadly you can't just get a code and make it work.

Serial numbers are unique for each PC and each software version. They fit together like a lock and key. New serial numbers are generated each time VAG-COM returns to shareware. You can't use an old activation code to activate a new copy of VAG-COM because the serial number changes.

This means that a single PC will have a new serial number if for any reason it should become "unregistered". An activation code will work once and only once, and only for the PC and serial number for which it has been generated.

In few words You can't make VAG-COm "fully registered version" Just by placing a password. You have to buy it straight from Ross-tech in order to get it. They do deserve the money tho, its a pretty nice program that can save you a lot of money in the future.

Mine says: Original Ross Tech chip: No
But it still works as "registered". I think the software is a bit steep, and if you're going to purchase it i recommend buying a proper cable.
But there are ways of circumventing the DRM of the program..
Just saying though, the vagcom 409 will NOT work under Vista. So I put XP on my laptop instead..

If you buy a new cable and a licence from Rosstech you will have updated software fully compatible with Vista.
