Unhappy Engine pointers please?

I don't know if you guys remember me posting the problem with my continuous valve bending problem, but it was finally fixed! It was the oil pump not putting out enough pressure on the lifters. Well I've been driving my 98 a4 Quattro 2.8 30v and I changed out a leaky valve cover gasket. After the work I started the car up and it sounded like something slurped up I to the engine and now it's acting up the same again. Misfiring and flashing check engine light. I can't say it's a bent valve yet until I run a compression test. I hope to God the valves didn't bend again. Anyways I need a list of engines both Audi and Vw that would fit Into the 98 Audi A4 Quattro 2.8l v6 30v. I'm planning on pulling an engine and starting over. Thanks

I think starting over is a good plan. Your 98 has an AHA motor. You can also use an ATQ. The ATQ is just the AHA with drive by wire. It's an easy conversion to an AHA car. You just swap the throttle body and the intake mani if I recall correctly. I did it on a 2000 Passat that was made for an AHA.

You can find the same engine code in Audis and VW. All V6 B5's from 98 - 99 are AHA's, from 2000 - 2001 are ATQ's. Don't know the years in Passats but you'll find them out there.

That narrows things in a hurry. You are aware that the crankshaft flange is different aren't you? You can't just drop an automatic motor into a manual.

With the 2.8 you can, it's actually only the longitudinal 1.8t that have different cranks. If you do get an auto motor there will be a bushing pressed into the crank that you have to remove, but that's it.
