Engine Temp gauge not reading properly
So I just took a look at my ETC or CTS whatever you wanna call it and it seems that around the sensor there has been something leaking, my guess is the o-ring is bad and some coolant has started to leak there. I also looked at my G12 coolant level and it is right on the minimum level... My guess is that this is the problem and not the thermostat. Any thoughts?
Yes thats the hose I was talkin about. If its hot, your thermostat is prolly not the problem. The coolant temp sensor is sealed with an o-ring, so what you said sounds very likely. They're pretty cheap on ECS, but make sure you buy the right replacement.
Yeah that hose definitely was hot like always so I'm almost 100% sure it's the sensor. Good news I guess because that seems like an even easier fix than the thermo. I might just pick it up at the dealer if it's cheap enough, if they are being stupid I'll order one. Thanks again.
For future reference: if your gauge isn't warming up and the top hose isn't hot you're looking at a thermostat stuck open.
If you're overheating and the top hose is not hot, you're looking at a t-stat not opening.
