Happened last wednesday, tried to start my 01 a4 2.8L 30V to go home from school. it did crank but then it didnt start, at the time i thought it was the battery. We tried jumping it and it didnt start. towed it home. Checked all my fuses and they are okay, but im not sure how to check my ecu if its okay. im not sure where to go from here. any help?

Have you scanned it for codes? If so what codes are being thrown? Usually if the car cranks but doesn’t start is the Crank Position Sensor. Sometimes the car doesn’t throw any codes or if it does, it will have to do with the cam position sensor but is ultimately the CPS.

When you crank the engine, is the tachometer moving? If not it’s your Crank Position Sensor. $20 part at Rock Auto and about 20min to change on a 1.8T. May be more difficult to do on a 2.8.
