Default Expected Lifespan on a 1999 Audi A4 Quattro?

Hey folks ....

Wondering what the expected lifespan is of an
1999 Audi A4 2.8 Quattro????

I have about 146,000 miles on it.

Anyone seen any metrics on the expected lifespan on this year make/model?

The reason I am asking is that my trusted Audi mechanic tells me
the Audi needs a new torque converter and ABS brake sensor, but with the high mileage he tells me it is not worth the money to do the work on an Audi with such high mileage!!!!

Any other Audi lovers out there who would hate to give up their beloved Audi as much as me?

Just wondering if it is time to upgrade to a newer year...

Thanks!

Did you buy it new? It all depends how it was maintained. Audi's are cranky like that.

The 2.8 has a good lifespan. If you plan to keep the car indefinitely and it's been well cared for then perhaps its worth it. If you are not the original owner and have no idea how its been treated then I would think twice about investing 2K in a car that's worth 4-6K.

Personally - I would trade it in and buy something newer if you have the funds. I have been toying with trading in mine for a new model for the past year or so... Just can;t seem to let go ya know?? hah

Assuming that it is running good now I wouldn't hesitate too much to put the money into it as long as you like the car. Is he quoting you a new or used torque converter? You could probably get a used one for a decent deal w/ 40-60k miles on it. Unless this is a mechanic you have going to for years and trust I might get a second opinion before dumping the money. Whats the over all condition of the car? Has the timing belt been done in the last 90,000 miles? I would just take this moment have him put the torque converter in and do ALL your flushes. Brakes, power steering, coolant, and if he isn't doing the transmission flush w/ the torque converter that one too. The car can last to well over 200k miles but you will still have to replace things like control arms, wheel bearings, tie rod ends, and normal wear and tear parts.

Or at least until that happens.

Torque convertors can be crazy expensive. It's just up to you if you want to dump possibly $2000 into a car that sells for $3000-$5000. Look into replacements and get what you can for your broken Audi, as-is.

My 99 2.8 30vqm is at roughly 168k miles and runs like a dream. It shows no sign of giving up anytime soon - it depends on the factors mentioned above. I got a car that was VERY well cared-for, and I care for it the same way. I'll spend money when the car needs it, but as the parts can be expensive, the higher the mileage gets and the older the car gets, it starts to become less worthwhile to keep putting in the repairs. As it ages, it's far more worthwhile to keep the car if you can do the work yourself. It costs a fraction of the price of having it done by a dealer/shop, and therefore makes the investment much more worthwhile.

Default My 99.5 A4 Quattro 2.8

I bought my car seven years ago used for $10500. old lady that owns it never drove it had 60,000 miles on it and it looks brand new and drove that way too. My odometer just turned 260,000 miles. it still looks brand new but adding up all of the repairs I have put into it I've almost paid in repairs what I paid for the car. I've gone through 7 wheel bearings to CV joint, I can't even count how many control arms. The engine still runs strong. It's just as quiet as it was when I bought it however that said she leaks oil like crazy.. my mechanic laughs and says all Audis do that. They mark their territory.replacing the cam seals the valve cover gaskets and a bunch of other gaskets which didn't stop the leak. But at least I'm only having to put in a quart maybe two a month. Do I like my car? I still love it... even with the miles and the age it's still a better ride than most new cars
