Fan clutch test?

Fan clutch test?
Is there a way to test a fan clutch to see if it's working properly? I have a suspicion mine is locking up when it shouldn't because I hear a really loud whooshing sound whenever I rev my motor past 1k rpm that sounds very similar to other cars' fans.

Hmm. In my experience, the problem is they don't lock up when the viscous fan clutch goes. The test is hard to judge, but the idea is that you start the car and feel the air flow being produced. Then wait until the car heats up, or take it around the block.. either way get it up to operating temp. Now test the air flow. It should be much harder, if not it's toast.
Edit, the only time I've seen one "lock up" was when I discoverd the previous owner had installed a 1.8t fan blade instead of a 2.8 blade. They turn opposite ways. Soon there was fan blade shrapnel in the radiator. Not awesome.

Just to let you know, I had mine lock up semi permanently about a month ago. It was very loud when reving the engine.... then it broke into a million pieces. Definately get it fixed/replaced soon. It's not designed to fully spin with the speed of the motor.
