A4 Quattro 2.8 1998

If I drive on really bumpy roads, it sometimes spring open, even with all doors locked. Which is scary and probably illegal....

I have applied plenty of WD40, but have not taken off the side panel to take a look yet. My authorized mechanic says it is the spring, and I need to buy the whole latch. Any suggestions?

If I have to get a new/used latch, any suggestions on where to get it apart from a dealership? RockAuto does not carry it.

I've had problems with two of my doors ( on the same side - that were replaced).

It seems simple enough, but it's easy to overlook. Check the plastic kick panel that sits under the door (when closed). The black and chrome piece that say "Audi" on it.

I struggled forever to figure that out. I damn near broke the doors.

Close the door slowly while looking closely at the bottom and see if there's any friction.

If you really do need to replace door/hinge components, check with your local salvage yard first.
