Default Fuel filter

How often are they supposed to be changed my a4 has 134k on it (its a 1.8t). Is it hard to do? Ive done quite a bit of maintenance since i bought it (with misfires). Owner neglected it. Ive never used the seafoam should i give that a go as well?

Its an easy job on a FWD. Not terrible on a Quattro, but its a bit tedious. Plenty of write ups out there about it if you wanna check it out

Seafoam is always good. Fuel filter I think is recommended at 30k but I'd go no longer than 60k (that's the interval for every other car I've owned). Do it - there's a DIY online that'll help. It will kill your fuel pump if you leave it alone (ask me how I know that).

Just did the fuel filter on my 2.8 quattro.

Hints
====
+ Use an OEM filter. My generic filter has a larger diameter at the top than the OEM filter, making replacement more tedious.

+ Retrofit the filter retaining strap bolt with a big ziptie.

+ When following the DIY (searchable) and you unbolt the fuel tank straps, try not to let the straps snap away from the tank -- they're a biatch to snap back in.
Having just fumes in the tank instead of half a tank-full will help with this.

+ Ideally, have a 20mm open wrench on hand.

+ Use ramps instead of jackstands.

+ I buy a lot of stuff online at Advance Auto with a 20% coupon code and then just pick it up at the store.

I completely forgot about that, great advice. I did mine with a full tank of gas and I almost dropped a nut trying to lift the tank back up against the subframe when I was finished
