Question Gas Gauge Issues and other oddity

I swear this car will be the death of me. This morning the gauge was under a half tank. Then after driving to work it moved to over half. Did the same thing tonight. Started well below the half way point then moved over half way. It was bouncing slighty as well.

I also noticed today, that when I opened the door of the car after turning it off, it did not warn me that my headlights were on until I got out of the seat. Wierd.

Any ideas??

I assume electrical, but would appreciate a starting point.

On a side note. I was in coming home the other day stopped at a light and a horrible smell came into the car. It was so bad that it burnt the inside of my nose. It smelt like it was possibly electrical, but I thought maybe it was coming from another car. The smell went away and has not returned. I am wondering if this could be related.

I am taking the car in on Wednesday to have the oil cooler replaced, so I am looking for a direction that I could point the mechanics in with these new issues.

I would appreciate any insight.

Thanks!

Do a search for "fuel sending unit" and you'll find everything you need to fix the gas gauge problem yourself in a half hour for less than a buck

Yep - about a 98% chance that'll fix the problem.

Yes they are. With the amount of things going wrong with mine in the first month of owning it, I wont be surprised if it explodes when I unlock the doors or something. haha

I have only had my car for about a month as well..I have already invested about $1900 on top of what I paid for the darn thing. I fix one thing...something else breaks. Pretty darn frustrating.
