If you are sure you have 16 links between these marks and the timing belt is lined up, its possible the cam tensioner is sticking which will cause missfires accross all cylinders. There is a data block to check it with the vag com, can't remember which one though. I know for a fact its between blocks60-80, it should be open or closed, on or off. If its stuck in just one of these positions your SOL. You need a new tensioner.

Thanks for all the help guys. As it turned out I did have it 1 link off. I took it apart and installed it correctly. I did have a scarry monent though. It didn't have any compression after I had it all back together (engine just spun freely). I did a compression test and had compression on #3 only. After a rant (I don't throw tools just use colorful language) I tested them again. This time #1 also had compression. I put the plugs in and it started up. Ran rough for about 10 min and then ran smoothly. I think we got it. The cam chain clicks some so I just ordered a new new one just to be safe. Happy days are here again. Time to have a Bud Light and color Easter eggs.

Good job, those are pretty hard to get right. I had to practice those a lot at the academy, it always busted my *****.

It's alive, it's alive!!!!! I just took it for a test drive and it runs great. It took a couple of weeks longer than expected asI ordered a cam chain tensioner and installed it. When finishig things upI discovered the fan blade broken. I think it got stepped on in all the activities.
