So yeah, last night it was pouring rain like crazy and I drove through a couple spots that were flooded pretty bad on my way home.
Now this morning I get in my car and realize that I can't reverse.
The gears won't shift into reverse.
Drive and Neutral along with Park is fine...

What's wrong with my car...?
Did something just get wait and so I have to wait till it dries?
Or is this gonna be a costly repair..... = (

Please HELP!

 

It could be a sensor. I dont really see how the tranny would just go bad from getting wet? I would take it to a shop of the problem proceeds. Its kind of a bitch when you have to push a car back out of the driveway everyday....

 

Is your Transmission display Flashing?

 

Its your Multi-function switch (Neutral Safety switch). I drove through a puddle and mine did the same. Thought it was my tranny (so did my regular shop) but the guys at the transmission shop said that my multi-function switch got damaged. I'm replacing mine right now. Should have my car back on Monday.

Make sure you mention that it could be that cause I did at my regular shop and they looked lost (no longer my regular shop) and when I mentioned it to the guy at the transmission shop he said he had the same feeling.

MAKE SURE YOU CHECK THAT FIRST BEFORE SOMEONE MAKES YOU BUY ANOTHER TRANNY (I almost did this).

Did you get water inside your car? The transmission control module is on the floor of the passenger side and if it gets wet it will be toast. Otherwise see above.

 

First thing you should do is check the codes with an OBDII reader. Autozone will let you borrow one as well as Advance. Mine did the same thing as yours is doing right now, rain storm and all. You can clear the codes with the reader. You might get reverse and overdrive back, you might not. Checking the codes will tell you whether it is the TCM or not. If it comes up saying "shift circuit" or somesuch ****, it isn't your TCM. You can totally avoid the shop in diagnosing this problem. Mine is the switch inside the selector. Overdrive and reverse are engaged by a solenoid controlled by the TCM. If your TCM cant get a good signal on which gear your car is in, it will fail safe into "limp mode", and your PRND32 will be lit differently on the dash. If the problem were your TCM, your car would switch gears funny, jump into reverse at odd times and all kinds of other bad stuff.
