Help with purchasing used A4
Hey everyone,
I'm brand new here and I was hoping to get some advice from the Audi community. I'm looking at selling my current car and buying a used 1999 A4 1.8t Quattro Avant with 109.000. I went a looked at the car in person and it seemed to be in very good shape for a '99 both outside and inside. The major thing I noticed was the clutch needs to be replaced right away. I know this is a big thing as I've done it on both my previous cars but otherwise the car seemed to be in good condition.
I'm just wondering, since you guys know the cars better than anyone else if it sounds like a reasonable buy or if it's something that won't last me very long or would be a bad decision. I'm definitely aware that a car with this many miles will have plenty of maintenance and repairs that will come up and I'm able to deal with that to an extent.

Any feedback would be helpful and thanks so much!

Check the sticky posts at the top of this forum for all the info. As for the clutch, I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume that's because it engages very high. That's normal for an Audi. Put it in 5th at 35mph and floor it. If it's gonna slip, it'll do it then. If it doesn't, it's fine.
Thanks for the info so far. And in reply to ImTheDevil, it is because it engages very high. Like, the pedal is as far up as it will go. I know some cars release higher than others but this seemed a little extreme. I will def try to see if it slips at all on the next test drive.
Any shop that's driven my car says my clutch will need to be replaced pretty soon. It's all stock and has 125,000 miles on it. But, it's not slipping... it just engages really high. Do as ImTheDevil suggested, and if the clutch doesn't slip and you buy the car you'll get accustomed to the super high engagement point
Nice monster truck your looking to buy
I want to see you buy it, and then get tome coilovers, then lower it.
My moms Jetta, and all the people I know with b5s have high engagement points, it just takes time to learn
