Default Help! Shaking at high speeds

Hi all....I hate to be such a girl, but I'm needing SOME advice of where to start w/ a mystery problem.

My 1998 A4 quattro is starting to **** me off.

It's doing this shaking thing when i'm on the freeway.....so I've had sparkplugs and wires replaced (that's what the computer said was wrong at the mechanic) and also i've had the tires balanced TWICE.

Someone was in the back seat when I was driving the other day and immediately said it needed new shocks.

Does this sound right? No one can figure this out (haven't gone to the dealer yet).

It has a little over 110k miles on it and I'm wondering....keep repairing or time for a new one?

What the heck is wrong w/ this?

could be the control arms, a bad cv joint. even a sway bar. shocks is even could be a cause...

you cant really know for sure without checking everything else, and some other replies from people seeing what they say

sounds like something to do w/ your front suspension to me. lift the front of the car so the tire is just off the ground then twist it side to side and up an down by grabbing both sides of the tire. If you feel any slop at all then something is worn get a 2nd person to move it and look at the parts under it see which one is moving.

or simply wheel out of balance for some reason - worn out tires, thrown weights, mud dried on inside of wheel after off roading experience.

did you try rotating the tires? to see if it is still present...

does the steering wheel shake? or is the whole car shake?

and you should do what somebody5788 said. that would let you get an idea of whats goin on

I would definitely have the wheels balanced and the tires rotated. It's likely to fix the problem and WAY cheaper than any of the other possible repairs.
