Default How do you remove the dead pedal?

I would love to check my haynes manual but it's somewhere in storage and I can't find it? Is it a pull clip like the other stuff or does it screw in somewhere?

There is a nut in the top and there is also a panel on the side that needs to come off.

Mine doesn't have a nut on top. I'm replacing it with perforated aluminum. I might try removing the side piece and see where that gets me.
