how often do you use your TIP feature?
hey guys i was wondering how many of you use the tiptronic feature on your a4's and does it put stress on your engine when you use it or would you say that its the same as driving on auto?

Every day. No reason to think that tip mode would be more stressful on your engine or tranny as long as you dont cruise around at 6k rpms all day. The regular auto shift points are way too early for me. Unless im just mosying around, I always use tip mode. Though, I flip it to regular auto for downshifting when rolling to a stop. The 2-1 downshift in tip mode can be rough if you don't time your stop right.

yeah your right i know what you mean as far as coming to a stop. but how about when going to tip to auto or from auto to tip while driving that's gota be bad isnt it?
I agree with you the auto shift points are too early. after you use the tip and extend the shift point a little dont you feel like your engine opens up a little bit and sort of has more power to it?
im just not really familiar how to use the tip mode thats y i was asking to see what not to do and stuff you know as far as how to use it

No its not bad to switch back and forth between tip and D. I mean, if you are holding 3rd gear in tip mode at 60mph and then shift the D, it might lunge a little as it upshifts right when you put it in D, but it shouldn't hurt it. You'll get a better feel for how to provide the smoothest tip driving experience the more you drive it. Factoring in your personal driving tastes while accounting for the sloshy shift lag of tip is the hardest part. You've got to shift about 1 second before you can expect the car to react to your instruction. A tip chip helps with this if you can't stand the lag between pressing the +/- button and when the tranny reacts to it.
