Idling problems
I turned on my car for the first time today in 5 days. It has gone below freezing everynight since. I turned it on and it idled fine for the first 5 minutes, right around 1k, jumped around a bit but nothing more than 900-1100. Then all of a sudden it droped to 400 and i thought it was gonna die. Meanwhile i still have a CEL on due to EGR vavle i haven't fixed, but i wouldnt think that would cause that much of a fall, or have anythign to do with it at all. It dropped to 400 for about 2 seconds then went back up to 1k. It did that twice within 10 minutes. i got all my snow off the car and ice, and i went for a drive, got it up to 60 and cruised for a few minutes then came home again. Drove fine and handeled normally. All fluids are right and tire pressures are 30-33. Once i pulled back in and parked it. i was checking the windows and popped the hood, the hood latch keeps sticking and wont let me close it until i pop it back up a few times, but then while doing that, it plummeted to 400 again, then shot back up. ICV? what else could it be. Im convincing my parents its worth keeping on the road and drivable with the things needing fixed, but this isn't helping much. Thanks.

No, I'm in New Hampshire near Portsmouth.
Your going to need to atleast find someone close to you that will scan your car.
I don't know if people on this site will offer the use of they're VAG but they might on the www.VWvortex.com Ross tech site.
In 07' when I got my 99' B5 it had 119K and was over due for a ton of parts to be replaced on the engine including the timming belt.
I spent about $3,500 in new parts and we worked on the car for a few weeks at night.
And that's being connected to a OEM parts dealer and a friend who specilizes in Audi/VW/ Porsche.
At that time I did:
VAG software
Timming belt kit
Cam seals
Water pump
Throttlebody
Coil Packs
Plugs
ECM
MAF
Money well spent as I have not had a single engine related problem since and now the car has 150K.

well when i bought the car this summer from a mechanic he did the water pump, Timming Belt, Plugs, MAF and other various things on it, but we knew the EGR had to be fixed, so idk what could be causing that other than the coil packs.
