Default Ignition/key help asap

Whats going on guys, hows the audis treating you? Me not so well here is a short story of whats going on with my 2001 S-line a4. First off my key broke of the flip fob so i been using Vise-Grips to give me the force i need to start my car. Last night I went to start my car and it would not crank but what i did realize is that my key was out of the ignition but the car read like the key was in it on the on position. So I got a few guys and we pushed started the car, when i went to shut off the car the key came out but the car was still running. So im assuming the ignition is broken what action do i need to take to get the car back running? If i get a new ignition switch or whatever i need will i have to get new keys and everything?? need help fast i really dont want to take it in to audi and pay thousands to get everything up and running.

Sounds like your lock cylinder is shot. Had that on my 96. Bought a new one online and yes, it comes with it's own key. It's not worth the hassle of rekeying everything so I just carried the key fob and the new key.

Did you do all the work yourself? I work for Toyota so i can get the work done there if there's no crazy German engineering that goes along with the lock cylinder. what am i looking at to replace this

I bought the lock somewhere for about $90 I believe. Did it myself in an hour. You have to drill a hole in the casing to get the old one out. There's a DIY on it somewhere. It's no big job at all.
