Installed iPod interface
Just got my iPod interface for my b5.. took me about 20 mins to put in. i dont have a cd changer hooked up, only the wiring for it. took out the factory bose stereo, unplugged the existing cd changer harness, plugged the new one in, in its place. hid the box and ran the iPod cord to my glovebox. since i can control my iPod through my factory stereo now, i dont need it out.. i can just put it on shuffle and listen to 2000 songs at cd quality.. orrr if someones in the car with me and wants to pick songs, they can take it out of the glove box, and the cord is long enough that they can put it in the center and stuff.. its a sweet hook up for sure, since im all about factory appearance. it was 130 bucks shipped from crutchfield, complete with instructions, stereo removal tools and everything for free.. i love those guys

Sweet! Just wanted to confirm this is the unit you are talking about: http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...PA11VW6&tp=120
that is the one! there are settings on the interface itself, so that you can use Hybrid mode, which allows the iPod to still be controlled manually and with use by the factory stereo.. but i just found out that my new nano (any generation 3 ipod) doesnt work in hybrid mode.. like you can still control it through the stereo, but not manually.. but if you set the interface to direct mode then you can.., but you cant use it through the stereo controls then.. so its kinda stupid.. so im prolly gunna end up getting an older ipod.. haha.. but anyway, i just hid the box behind the factory stereo, theres a little nook on the right hand side that it fits into.. and ran the cord to the iPod into the glovebox to hide it away.. and if you want the ipod out, you can just take it out and slide the cord off to the side of the glove box and shut it.. it keeps things clean. plus when i ordered the hook up, they said i needed this special cable.. and i dont even need it, it was 30 bucks though. so if you got a situation like me, skip on that extra adapter they say you need.
haha i know right? but the sound quality is the best you can get.. and instead of buying a factory 6 disc for like 500 bucks i guess this is a pretty good deal and 2000 songs.. the display on the car does disc 1-6... and then tracks.. and so the way it works.. ill make 5 play lists.. Rap, Heavy Metal, Punk/Emo, Relax music, and maybe some other one... and those are "discs" 1-5.. so go to disc 1.. it is Rap.. disc 2 is Heavy Metal and so on... once you get onto that playlist.. you can hit the RAND button on the stereo and it will shuffle the songs.. or you can just go in the order of the playlist on your iPod.. then once you get to disc 6.. that is your entire library... so go right to disc 6.. hit RAND and it will shuffle all 2000 or however many songs you have on your entire ipod..
cheaper would of been nice.. haha but its well worth it..
