Hello, I first purchased a 2002 audi a4 1.8t quattro b6, but then threw a rod within the first day of me owning it. I fell in love with the car instantly and wanted another one which led to me purchasing a 2001 audi a4 1.8t quattro for $1100 (seller orginally wanted $2500, haggled him because of the water outlet). So now I own two audis and my question is, what parts are interchangeable between the two different models(drive train, ignition, interior, exterior, etc.)? The 01 b5 engine code is awm and the 02 b6 is amb so most engine parts are out the window, correct? Also the b6 has the upgraded k04, a front mounted intercooler, and a 3 inch downpipe. I also plan to pop a new engine into the 02 b6 when funds allow. Any info is greatly appreciated and happy to be apart of the audi crowd.

 

I threw a rod and piston through both sides of my oil pan on my '01 AWM (@ >30 psi -
boost spike). I had the engine swapped, but the guys at the shop I had do it were nice enough to leave a gaping hole in the cooling system somewhere on the back of the engine, so on my first drive (after I had already moved out of state), I spun the bearings (I'm running a 22psi tune) after a single trip around the block, so like you, I said **** it and bought another car, but I got lucky and found another 2001 AWM, (but this one has Quattro and heated seats) for $1,200.

I'm now using my original car as a donor car and obviously, most of my parts swap over - even though my original car has the "Sport Package" - which actually works out great, because I've converted the brand new suspension I had on the original car. Now the new one has the "Sport package" suspension.

What I find funny is that you don't have an AWM. The AWM (if I'm not mistaken) was only made/used for 18 months (on the 2001.5 - B5) and on the 2002 (first year of the B6) then they decided to go w/the 2.0t after that.

It sounds to me like either you have some type of sports model that I haven't heard of, or the previous owner did what a lot of '02 1.8t guys do - and that's a head swap, so you very well may have an entirely AWM car, with the exception of a amb head and some aftermarket performance upgrades (IE: I have a K04 that I put on myself).

Either way, the bulk of your parts should be interchangeable. If you're concerned about a specific part, just compare the part #'s and you should be fine. If the part #'s don't match, see if the '02 part is an interchangeable upgrade.

The two setups can't be that different (or at least I would imagine so).
