interesting intake heat shield for free. (pics)
If the this tape is sticky on one side i would go to Home depot and buy a piece of aluminum and cut it as close as you can to the shape needed then wrap it in that tape. At least that way it wont look as ghetto.
As for the valve cover i would put little more effort in sanding it down and smoothing the surface then priming it and coating with high heat paint. Looks like you have a lot of cracking/waving going on there.
Looks good tho

Listen, the heat shield Idea is Great by you are dealing with Infrared Heat. I don't see the back too well but from what I see is there is nothing back there. What you have there is a good Heat Conductor. Need to have Fiber Glass or some kind of insulation behind it or you will transfer the Heat from one side to the other side. The buffer is a must.
I do similar testing where I work and over the years I have learned alot on Shields, heatsinks and so on.

at my job I have access to all kinds of tape, my favorites Aluminum tape that can withstand high temps and teflon tape that I cant figure out how I am going to use, teflon tape is very slippery (resists all oils). As you can see I got bored and tried making something, works pretty well the intake felt alot cooler after testing it on a 30 minute trip. Also just recently sprayed my valve covers again.
