P1338 - Camshaft Pos.Sensor,Bank1 Open Circ./Short to B+
P1392 - Camshaft Pos.Sensor,Bank2 Open Circ./Short to B+
P1857 - Load Signal Error Message from Engine Contr.

The P0102, P1338, and P1392 are the only codes that could have caused a stall. the P1338 code is a bank 1 camshaft position sensor open or short to battery voltage code, P1392 is the bank 2 sensor those two will definately affect the engine running. Chance of two of them failing at the same time is about 0, so you have a wiring problem somewhere relating to those sensors. The P1857 code is related to the ABS system.

how do i check if timing belt went bad or could it be a fuel pump issue because of bouncing fuel guage ?

Does your engine coolant sensor work? On a 96 A4 (the only one I have a wiring diagram for) The camshaft sensor, MAF sensro, engine coolant sensor and outside air temperature sensor all get their power from the same wire coming out of the engine controller.

Pull the timing cover off and check to make sure the belt is still in one piece.

New head gaskets for sure, replace all the vacuum lines (13 ft of silicone hose from Flex Technologies - Your Silicone Hose Solution is more than enough), coolant temp sensor since it's cake to access it with the engine torn down, you'll need valve cover gaskets, new head hardware, and plan on doing the entire timing service (not just belt and tensioner).
