Default Leather seat repair?

What's the best way to repair a split drivers seat? The leather has split along the seam right under my *** in the bottom cushion. It seems excessive to replace the seat just for this. Has anyone had luck having them re-stitched? I'm in the Northern VA area....

Car is 2001 A4 Quattro w/black leather.

1.8t or 2.8? I don't hear much about the real leather seats tearing, but it seems like every leatherette driver's seat is torn in some way. If you have leatherette you'll most likely need a new seat cover because the material itself tears at the stitches, not the string.

It's a 2.8 quattro... so I guess it's leatherette then! Oh, how I feel cheapened

Is it much of a job to replace the cover? I've never had much fun with upholstery but I'm game to try anything. Anyone posted any instructions?

Thanks, GY

Or you can try to score a used passenger seat bottom and replace the whole bottom.

I swear I've seen 2.8's with leather seats, it's easy to tell though, leatherette has tiny holes and doesn't have any creases or texture like leather.

^ you probably have..

I have a 2.8 which has leatherette but my friend who also has a 2.8 has Leather. They can have both.

The leatherette looks better than the leather to me, but not as good as the S4 leather and not as cool as the Sport Cloth seats.

The only benefit of the 2.8 leather vs leatherette seems to be any associated leather smells.
