Default loaner 2009 A4 while i awaited the grim news on my A4 B5

My audi A4 B5 was diagnosed at my local Audi Stealership($276.64) as needing a another tranny, while i waited for the grim news,me and a friend was whippin this bad boy for a couple of hours.

I found a used tranny for 1275.00 with 58.000 miles on it (from shokan)and found a shop that will install it for 400.00 with a total of 1,675.00 so for under 2 grand,i'll be driving Audina again, problem free, not a bad deal for bringing Audina back from being cripple.

I also need to refill/change Audina's rear differential oil and the front? i think the front diff, uses the same oil from the tranny? someone clear this up for me.

Here is also the documentation on the diagnosis,so you guys can explain in more detail, what i need to do to fix all the issues i am having with Audina,in addition to the tranny problem.

You can do a 5 speed swap for that kind of money. Is that the lowest you could find one for?

I don't want a manual and it's the lowest i can find, which is very very cheap, for a used tranny with only 58.00 miles on it for a A4 B5 quattro, you obviously don't know, how much these things go for used,if you did,you wouldn't say that. maybe where you live,it doesn't snow much, here on the eastcoast in connecticut,it snows a ton every winter,so quattro trannies are very expensive.

I also have a option of getting mine rebuilt,i called a guy today and he's giving a ball park figure of 1,700.00 or so... he wanted me to bring it in and take a look at it,i'm at a crossroads and i don't know which way to go!

I have a quattro that was tip so I DO know how much they go for. Also no snow but we get rain which is just as dangerous. Which is exactly the reason I'm swapping over. I understand if you can't drive stick or are not mechanically inclined to do the swap yourself but please don't assume I'm clueless. At the end of the day its still a JY tranny and they are always more prone to failure than the manuals. But like I said GL.

Morpheous, just my 2 cents, Shokan charges up the *** for every part it sells. Being in CT, there are a whole bunch of junk yards around you....you have the option of going up to hartford or driving down to the Bronx in NY. I'm from NY, and I can tell you, I usually find parts at LKQ (www.lkqcorp.com) and Hunt's Point, there's also a location in Milford.

As far your oil question, maybe this link can help...http://forums.audiworld.com/showthread.php?t=343602

its pretty much been a proven fact is more expensive on any car to rebuild a tranny then to buy new.
