i have a 2001 audi a4 1.8t quattro avant and am wondering where the thermostat is located so i can change it and if possible maybe someone can direct me to a diy on this.. ive searched forums and am confused on the location... any help is appreciated....

 

The 2001 and later models have them behind the timing belt. So if you plan on going in there you might as well change the timing belt and water pump at the same time.

 

I just did a thermostat on a 2001 awm engine, its behind the alternator on the block, you can change it without removing all that other stuff. its also a pita.

 

I also just replaced the thermostat on my car. It really was a P.I.T.A., good luck with it.
