Default Looking to buy a chip from my friend but have a few questions

so he wants to sell me his giac chip for 400$, was just looking on ebay and theres some going for like 180-200. my question for you is, is 400 too much? after seeing what i saw i think so, but then again brand new is what like 600 ish bucks?

if you need to know what car i have i have a 2001 audi a4 1.8t fwd, im not sure if that really matters with price but let me know

thanks
rick

You mean he will sell you his flashed ("chipped") ECU? Is the ECU the same part number?

$400 does seem a bit much. I bought a stock used ECU off ebay for ~$80 (different part number than yours no doubt), and if I wanted it flashed with GIAC software it would cost me $300 + labor.

Your ECU might be more expensive, and it's possible the GIAC software you need costs more. But this will just give you an idea.

Well here's the problem w/ the eBay one. How do you know it's flashed? I could sell you an ecu tell you it is then when you get it, something must be wrong w/ your car.

But yes 400's about 50-100 much.

changing ECU's not that simple, you need to adapt to your key,i have a chip from my AWW engine VW i would sell cheap from autothority. thats the reason for today's downloads a single program can be safely installed without touchy souldering

everything with the ecu seems fine though we traded and ive been using it in my car for a few days now. we have the same exact car and ecu.

and turbo your statement is very true. but why would you risk your ebay rating for that? and read the reviews and everything seems to be true as stated.

just kinda confused at this point i guess ill just say 300 or 350 for it instead of 400?

You can drag someone along long enough or make them feel stupid enough. People hack eBay accts all the time. Check activity and keep moving. My acct was hacked and someone bought thousands of $'s of ****. But eBay caught it and put a stop.

There are ways thought. Look at the forum member that took about 4 people for a tuned ecu. Had money from all of them for the same ecu
