I've still got this problem. Haven't tried to do anything about it yet. Maybe I'll check it out sometime but its not that big of a deal.

Mines got the same problem. Interior door handle on the drivers side is very loose. I read the DIY on removing the door pannel to install a new handle and it sounded like a lot. So I figure if I just take it easy on the handle it will last for a long time yet. Its been that way for close 2 years now.
I'm ok with it for the moment... LOL!

The B5 that I will be picking up this Friday also has a loose driver's door handle. I brought thisto the dealer's attention and he says it's not an unusual issue to develope over time. It's supposed to be an easy and cheap fix as well and will be sorted by the time I pick up the car.

I finally got around to reading this post... Now that I did my car has the exact same thing, except it's the whole like metal silver handel on the drivers side, and the black speaker cover it's attached to... Real annoying, but I figure it would be such a hassle to fix.... I'm gonna go with the saying "you got what you got".

Pete, I don't think it's such a difficult tak. I've removed/replaced a number of door handles on other cars before. The handle removal and install is actually a 10 minute job. The time consuming part is always the removal of the door skin itself. Once the door skin is removed it's a simple job. Usually a couple of bolts holding the handlr bracket in place and the 2 arms that connect to the door lock/catch is the tedious part that's usually connected with a small plastic hinging/swivel piece. I wouldn't hesitate doing it myself but since it's with the dealer/shop I'll let him sort it out.

ECS tuning has replacement handles for this common problem.
