I've had my 1998 Audi A4 Quattro for a week now, and I still can't get over how impressed I am with it. I got bored today and decided to check out CraigsList, and ran across this:

Judging from what H&R wants for the same set on their website, it appears to be a screaming deal. My question is, how bad do you think lowering my A4 will affect my daily driveability? I live in Montana, so the wintertime roads can get pretty hairy.

 

I have race springs on mine and with snow tires, this thing is a tank in the snow. I made it through deep ssnow last season.

 

It depends on how deep the snow gets before they plow. I live in NE Pa, we get quite a bit here and they suck at clearing the roads. Last year I ran coilovers at 25" to the wheel well and never had an issue. I say go for it.

 

Keep in mind those are race springs, so they're quite a bit lower than stock. You won't be able to use those with stock struts if you want the struts to survive - they'll be dead pretty soon after install. Some of the mild lowering springs can be used on factory struts, but race springs will blow them out. You'll need aftermarket struts to use those. But you're right, that is a good price.

 

I hadn't thought about the struts; thanks! I'll probably hold off on the lowering springs idea until this upcoming summer; test it out, see how it does in snow, and see if I get my new (and much higher paying) job too.

(And I still can't believe I didn't even think of the possibility of having to replace the struts!)
