Maintenance Help! 2001 1.8t
I'm contemplating a purchase of a 2001 A4 1.8t. 5 speed, with 73,xxx miles. He said it's always been properly maintained (know that doesn't account for much though) and said within the past year he had the cv joints replaced. I was thinking this is what I would need to do:
NGK Plugs
Mobil 1 SAE 5w40 Oil Change
Oil Filter
Fuel Filter
Air Filter
Change Brake Fluid
Change Tranny Fluid
Water Pump/Timing Belt
I was thinking, with all that being done, that I should get up to 100k no problem with oil changes every 5k. Is this a pretty accurate statement or are there other major problems that I should be worried about?
Secondly, the above oil would be correct right?
Next, what are some good brands of brake and tranny fluid for this model?
Last, does any company sell the timing belt/water pump as an entire kit? and is it the tensioner I need also? This is the part I'm confused about.
Thanks in advance.

Hey, nice to have you join the forums!
Check out this page for a listing of companies that sell parts like the ones you're looking for -

The oil I used was like.. 0w30 or something.. just check the manual and it says. Definitely use synthetic though. Also check the gapping on the spark plugs. It should be around 0.028-0.032. I hope you're doing a lot of that yourself. If you need, here are some DIY pages -

Allright thanks for the quick replies guys, especially that 2nd post! Awesome!
Ok so that answers where I can get everything and the oil....so what about the reliability concern. Is all that going to cover most everything I need for a while? Or is there more big problems that need to be addressed?

make sure you use the pink G12 coolant. NGK BKR7E are the plugs your lookin for, and since your in there doin all the work, might as well get like 2 meters of vaccum hose and replace them, replace your coolant temp sensor. and get the car scanned for fault codes as well.
