Default Major Brake Issues (pics) *updated*

Hey guys,

So I am currently waiting for all my brake parts to arrive. (new rotors and pads all around). The car has been making a nasty noise from the back left so I decided to stop driving the car and inspect the issue...Well little did I know but it would seem I have been playing with my life because there are no brakes left in the back, the front ones are ok. Take a look for yourselves.

The rotor in the back is completely shot:

Then I found this part on the ground in my driveway...I don't know what it is exactly, it seems to be the remnants of the inner brake pad:

And you can kind of see in this picture but the caliper piston is completely extended onto the rotor and there is no pad back there...

Is that the inner brake pad I'm seeing? Will my caliper be ok or do you think it got damaged since the inner pad broke off?

Rest assured I will not be driving the car until I get this all fixed.

Thanks

daym man. i think your caliper should be fine. if you're worried, MJMautohaus.com sells a seal rebuild kit for 5 bux for each rear caliper.

Because if that is indeed the inner pad, which I'm pretty sure it is. Then the piston of the calliper would be pressing directly onto the rotor and I'm afraid that the seals are damaged. I guess I'll have to take it apart tomorrow and scope it out. Thanks for the link I'll buy those seals if it is needed.

I don't know if the calipers are the same as on my '99 but mine required a special tool to press the piston in. Not having that tool, I employed a 6" c clamp and a large pair of pliers to twist/press the piston in. Either way, good luck.

Yeah the piston does require the tool or some sort of ghetto contraption like you made

How on earth did you deal with the awful scraping sounds for that long... You MUST be deaf. Or have a killer system that is always pumping... which would prolly make you deaf lol

Well I do have a killer system but no I'm not deaf. I only use the car once or twice a week during the school year and I hadnt had time to get the parts to fix it. I knew that this was going on I just didnt have the time to fix it. I just hope I didnt cause any irreversible damage to the calliper.

My 2 cents.

When your rotors are like that on the outside and your inner pad is gone your calipers are shot. Just sayin

I was thinking that also because the pad on the outside is only worn down to about half, yet the inner one is completely gone. All other brakes are at about half so maybe this caliper went and that's what caused this mess.
