Default Manually unlocking fuel door

Does anyone know how I can open the fuel door. I'm replacing the central locking pump (which doesn't work) but I need to fill up gas. However I can't unlock the fuel door. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you have the owners manual that came with the car, it should tell you somewhere in there. I don't remember the process, having never had to do it before, but there should be a tool in the trunk that you use to manually crank the lock from somewhere in the trunk where the fuel door is. If you can find the instructions in the owner's manual, it'll tell you exactly what the tool looks like and where and how to use it.

there is a cable that you have to pull under the trunk liner im pretty sure. its between the fuel door and the tail light on the passenger side. you do have to take the inside of the trunk off to get to it.

That is correct. Inner right trunk panel. Reach up in there near the gas door and feel for the actuator rod. Pull it back and your door can open .

Some B5's don't have the red cable release, all the B6's do. If you don't have the cable, just take off the trim and unbolt the lock solinoid. Replace it, done.

Found it. Thanks everyone. Mike, make sure you pull back the liner. You may need to pull out the storage bin. Then you will see it attached to the metal of the car, with a white protrusion. Push that out and pull it towards the back of trunk. You'll see a metal rod (which was what secured the fuel door). A lot easier than I thought. If you still can't figure it out, I can snap some pix.

I cant pull the liner because I dont have one, been without that for some time seeing that I have a 10 point cage and a battery box located in the trunk.

I went out to my car after posting the first time and looked at the gas lid motor and rod, even took a picture of it.
