Default Mechanical Fan question, 1.8t

Searched and found naught.

There's a grinding noise coming from the front of the engine, sounds like the bearings on one of the accessory pulleys. After removing the belts we found that it was the idler pulley for the mechanical fan. Anyone had to remove this yet? It's causing me a bit of a headache. The repair manual says it's left hand thread, but it doesn't seem to want to budge, can anyone confirm this?

Might as well just remove the whole thing and replace it with a Electric fan and a shorter belt.

I took mine off a few years ago but dont remember which way the bolt turns.
