metal flakes?

Exclamation metal flakes?

Looked at a 2000 1.8t today, found some like metal flakes under/around the turbo... is this anything to worry about? Thanks guys.

i would think turbo bearing about to go... Same happened with my first cars wheel bearing. It was getting worse and worse and i started seeing small metal flakes on the wheel.

130k and it is the quattro and manual

yeah, if it is the turbo bearing, how much of a pita is it to replace the stock turbo? Thanks.

if you wanna replace it with a bone stock turbo i don't imagine it would be too tough, I'm sure there are plenty of them laying around from guys who upgraded. If you wanna use this as an excuse to get a bigger turbo and some software, sounds like as good a reason as any

hahaha oh trust me, if it was my car I would, BUT it's for my gf and the 1.8 without the turbo is more car than she can handle

lol then yeah, a stock turbo shouldn't be too hard to come by

if you saw 'metal flakes' around the turbo, as in, outside the turbo, around the manifold etc. it is the coating on the heat shields flaking off.
