Insurance sometimes covers fires, just give them a call and without telling them your information ask. But I hope you meant $500 not $5000 cause at that price you could buy a new car...

i'd check everything in the engine compartment first and see if the car starts and keep an fire extinguisher close by
After that Power Wash the Car Started with no problem. However, I did not like the Fact I would Rev up the Engine and back down and hear a noise from Turbo area. SO I already started pulling out the Front of the Car Apart and Tmrw Turbi is coming off. The Car has 160,000 Miles on it and I am not sure if it was ever replaced. But I have to inspect the Cat Converter for blockage.

I am started taken my Car apart. I am getting the Turbo Out. I took the Front Pipe that goes from turbo, to Air Cooler to Intakeoff and I saw Black Oil. This means the Oil Seal Most likely is Gone and the Cat Fire is a very Good Posibility now.

Default Here are Some more pictures for you

After the Fire, I pulled out the turbo, Cat Convertor and I am debating On timning Belt.

I will be curious to hear from anyone who has done this Job.

The Hardest thing was the Removal of the Cat Convertor. I also snapped 2 Bolts from Turbo to Manifold.

Default The location of the Fire

So, All you who drive these used Audis, 1998 Avants mainly, go under your Car and inspect the Heat Shield around the Cat and after it. Make sure it does not Touch the Pipe in any way. The Shield is supposed to be Bolted to the Walls but they do brake loose.

I wonder if Audi Knows about this problem .
